Artist Statement

I’ve spent my adult life taking pictures of myself. I seek to capture emotion through self-portraiture. I am a visual person, who cannot easily describe in words feelings I express via photography.

I use natural light and shadows to illustrate with film to capture my body and express feeling. I’m not afraid of the shape I’m in, physically and emotionally. In many ways, my photographs are memoir, poetry and personal journaling without paper, keyboard or pen.

As a living, breathing woman in today's society my voice is not just mine, it's the voice of so many women. By sharing, I'm trying to speak for all of us. I want to leave a note about what we felt, what we went through, as we navigate these times.

Through my photographs I create art to tell my story and share my journey. This isn’t just about me, but more universal themes of acceptance, emotional expression and artistic experimentation.
